War and Peace

War and Peace is a reflection on relationship between war and cinema and, as a great novel divided into four chapters—remote past, near past, present and future—tries to recompose the fragments of visual memory from the early 1900s to the present day,  staging the multiplication of the visions that, like a constant background noise, accompany our current existences. Four important European institutions host the narration of the film and constitute a solid space-time framework; a framework in which peace and war seem to coexist and keep each other at bay.

Bio

Martina Parenti and Massimo D’Anolfi are among the most original contemporary Italian documentary filmmakers. Their films have been presented all over the world in festivals such as Mostra Venice and Locarno Festival. Their approach to storytelling and editing has been highlighted in films as diverse as The Castle (2011) and Dark Matter (2014). Deeply poetical but also rigorously political in their work philosophy, Parenti and D’Anolfi created films that have been praised critically worldwide. Their contemplative works question our relationship to space and society, refusing though to hand out easy answers.
